Explore the Okavango Delta

Fed by clear mountain streams, which rise in central Angola, and flow southward through the Caprivi and into Northern Botswana, the delta then fans out and forms the beautiful lush wetland oasis known as the Okavango Delta.

The delta has no outlet to the sea, and empties onto the sands of the Kalahari Desert, providing a natural irrigation system.

A warm and fertile environment, the delta is home to an abundance of wildlife. It attracts thousands of vistors each year, keen to catch a glimpse of this natural wonderland. Single camps and luxury resorts are dotted throughout the region to cater for tourists. A true Garden of Eden, the delta is made up of secluded waterways and thick, green forests

The delta provides a seasonal habitat to numerous different species, including the African Bush Elephant, Lechwe and Blue Wildebeest. Not to be outdone, the Nile Crocodile and Cheetahs are common-place in this wild landscape. Notably, the endangered African Wild Dog lives in the Okavango Delta. The delta is also home to over 400 species of birds, including theÒ African Fish Eagle and the Sacred Ibis.

The best time for game viewing in the Delta is between May and October. Bird-watching season runs from November to April and coincides with the regionò€™s rainy season.

Exploring the Delta by water is the ultimate experience. A mokoro (a dug out canoe, which is poled along by your tour guide) enables you to get up close and personal with the wetlandò€™s wonders. Motor launches travel along the main waterways and lagoons.

Traditional game viewing vehicles are used on the main islands, with night drives available. Walking Safaris are perhaps the most exciting way of viewing game, with an expert guide to help you stalk and track wildlife. Game viewing flights are available by both light aircraft and helicopter. And, of course, the most exciting way to explore the Okavango Delta is on the back of an Elephant!

Visit the Okavango Delta and explore a world waiting to be discovered,
