Jagganath Puri in India
History of Jagannath PuriIt is one of the cities of Govardhan Matha which was established by Adi Guru Shankaracharya. Puri also has some other famous holy institutions related to various sects of Hindu religion (Mathas). It is one of the ancient cities of India and believed to be a holly place for cremating the dead bodies.

Jagannath Temple
Puri is famous by the name of Jagannath Puri because of the holy temple of Lord Jagannath. Other deities of the temple include Lord Balbhadra and Goddess Subhndra. It was built in 12th century by King Chodaganga of Eastern Ganga dynasty. A large number of devotees come here to pay their obeisance throughout the year.
Rath Yatra
Puri is famous for its Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Balbhadra and Subhadra which is conducted every year in the month of July. Three chariots of the deities are constructed every year by specialist artisans and are beautifully decorated. These chariots are pulled by thousands of devotees which throng Puri during this famous Rath Yatra festival every year.
Puri Beach
Puri is situated on the beautiful beach of Bay of Bengal from where one can have the fantastic view of sunrise and sunset. Every visitor on the tour to Puri cannot dare to miss a visit to this mesmerising beach.
Ramakrishna Math
It is one of the famous institutions established in 1932, which is located on Chakratirtha beach. There are a number of activities which are carried in this Math like worship, non-formal education, vocational training and medical support etc.
