Marbella - tourist resort

Marbella is known as a tourist resort on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Today there live about 135,  000 inhabitants. Marbella attracts tourists mostly because of its beaches, golf courses and vibrant nightlife. However, it is very popular place for searching the celebrities from all around the world. However, you can easily notice one to two celebrities during the summer.Marbella is best accessed by air if you are coming from abroad. The nearest airport is Malaga which is about 45 miles away. You can also get to Marbella taking the highway A-7.

Tourist Attractions

Marbella offers pleasant climate year-round, so it is an ideal place for vacation. Even though many celebrities are attracted to Marbella, you can find tranquility in old buildings and Mediterranean air. On the other hand, if you are searching for active vacation, you can choose from a wide range of water sports, horse riding, etc. During the night, it offers good time in numerous of clubs, bars and casinos. Furthermore, the Old Town offers many museums and the most visited museum is a bonsai museum. Mirabella hosts many different festivals and celebrations during the year. Among the most famous festivals is the feast of San Barnabas, which is held around the 11th of June. Another popular festival is a celebration of fishermen and sailors- Fiesta de la Virgen Del Carmen.

Landmarks

While you stroll down the old town you will run into the great octagonal marble fountain built in 1704. In the old part of the town you can also see the remains of so-called El Castillo, Alcazaba fortress.However there is another interesting landmark, the Torre Ladrones, which was the first signal tower in Marbella"s territory during the reign of the Arabs in Andalusia.

Beaches

Marbella offers to its visitors 24 beaches, whose total length is 27 km. The most popular beaches are Plaia De Guadalmina, Plaia De Linda Vista Plaia De Cortijo Blanco, Plaia De Puerto Banus, Plaia De La Bajadilla and Plaia De Fontanilla.

History

Modern city of Marbella is settled on the Paleolithic and Neolithic foundation. Through history, it was conquered by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs. But the biggest boom was in the 20th century. In 1940 there lived about 1,000 people and today it reached 135,000 inhabitants.
