Volunteering Africa - Is Africa Volunteering All Mud Huts And Malaria?
African volunteering organizations realize that the modern volunteer isn"t necessarily going to be attracted by a tent in the jungle. For some people that"s precisely what they"re looking for - and if you are one of them there is ample opportunity to get out on an African safari. On the other hand, after you"ve been doing volunteer teaching, medical assistance or helping conserve African wildlife all day - and you"re tired - it"s quite reasonable to want a shower, a couple of drinks to unwind and, when you are ready for it, a comfortable bed.What you get depends to a large extent on where you go. In Cape Town, volunteers can stay in a comfortable house with a pool. A short walk away there"s a shopping mall and cinema. In Mozambique there"s no cinema but the back door opens onto the beach. In Zimbabwe, African wildlife volunteers stay in a thatched farmhouse by a like. Volunteering in Africa - like Africa herself, is full of diversity. The one thing you won"t find is bare earth and rough blankets - unless you go looking for them on purpose!
The important thing, of course, is the immensely valuable work that is done by people volunteering in Africa, whichever area of assistance and adventure you choose. For most people the accommodation is secondary, but it"s still nice to know that although it"s not the Hilton, you won"t be expected to be uncomfortable either.
